As wireless PDAs and Internet-enabled cellular phones continue to gain popularity worldwide, unscrupulous marketers are beginning a practice that could virtually put an end to the wireless Internet and email messaging-service industries.

While it is a daily routine for many to receive unsolicited email on our desktops - it is unacceptable when the same annoying email arrives on a wireless device that we are paying 25¢ to 45¢ a minute to receive! If not stopped, wireless email will never succeed. a Radok company

Mortgage Company Goes Spamming
April 14, 2001

Mesa, AZ - According to an Arizona Republic/AP article this morning, Acacia National Corporation, a Phoenix-area mortgage company, is one of the latest firms to test the waters for cellular wireless spamming.

A check on Acacia National's website shows it was taken down today, and some telephone numbers already disconnected. While the backlash appears to be apparent, Acacia's president, Gerry Youhanaie, has no apologies. According to the Arizona Republic/AP article, Mr. Youhanaie said the unsolicited ads "brought in new clients for his company."

If you would like to inquire about a mortgage from Mr. Youhanaie - or have any other comments for him - he can be reached at:

Wireless Spamming

Write down the complete wireless message, including Sent To, From, the message, and message date.

Immediately call the sender. Clearly relay your displeasure of the email;

Contact your local newspaper. Let the Business Editor know of the occurance, who sent it, and any contact information;

Contact your local congressmember. Explain that you are being charged for unwanted solicitations, and that you encourage laws to protect consumers. Specifically state that you want:

The current Telephone Consumer Protection Act strengthened and enforced;

The Wireless Telephone Spam Protection Act (HR-113) proposed by Rush D. Holt (D-NJ) promptly passed, and;

The Unsolicited Commercial Electronic Mail Act of 2001 (HR-95) proposed by Gene Green (D-TX) promptly passed. a Radok company
Stop Wireless Spamming

It is important to put pressure on the source of the wireless spammers, from the solicitors directly - to informing the ISPs that host their websites. Calls, letters, emails, faxes, and other correspondance clearly showing displeasure for such practices certainly help. Additional avenues include informing your congressional representatives to pass anti-spamming laws, as-well-as making local news agencies (newspapers, tv, and radio) aware of the unethical practice (see recent Arizona Republic/AP article - Cellular Spamming).
